Ugly Duckling Vintage Pattern Party

Ugly Duckling Vintage Pattern by nest full of eggs
I'm joining in on the fun over at Simple Simon and Company's "Ugly Duckling" Vintage Pattern Party. I'm linking up the above Very Easy Very Vogue that I'm almost certain is from the 1980s with the super wide shoulder padded shoulders. I think it is ugly because it looks like a plastic shopping bag that literally hangs on the body, it has absolutely no shape whatsoever. But I wanted to let you know the good news, you don't need this sewing pattern to achieve the same look. All you have to do is gather a plastic shopping bag... take a scissors and cut open the bottom.

 Then slip it on. Voila!

I have some more ugly vintage patterns to share with you... ugly wide and loud ties, that go up to 5 inches wide!

Sometimes the ugly is more the styling... ugly sideburns and mustache.

Shiny green quilted fabric on the far right.

This shoulder-tied dress has a way too high kangaroo pocket.

Am I the only one who thinks E.T. is ugly?

This blouse looks like it has too many extra large scarves tied around the neck.

Actually, in my own personal opinion, I think the winner of the ultimate ugly pattern would be this crochet afghan poncho for a man! Too funny!

Ha! This post is amazing! I love all the vintage patterns despite their ugliness factor. :) And wow, those crochet patterns for men...why is that man not wearing pants with his brown and white striped crocheted tank top?! :-O

LOL! You are right, why is that man not wearing pants? I never noticed that before, too funny!
Oh nice collection! I love the plastic bag- now that I see it I can't unsee it lol.
Oh dear, I must agree: these men crochets ponchos are the most awful thing I've seen so far (hopefully nobody sew them).
After these, yours look "kind of pretty" :))
LOL I am old enough to remember the fashion in the first Vogue pattern. I don't think I had a jumper quite like that but I am sure I wore something similar. Hahahaha
I actually love the first Vogue pattern. I think it would look retro chic in a light grey wool with a tight fitting shirt. I made the long-sleeved jumpsuit from that Simplicity pattern when it came out. Used denim and top-stitched in yellow. I was quite in style! When the elbows got worn, I made it short-sleeved and when the knees got worn I made the legs short. Lots of mileage out of that $1 pattern.

This is my favorite vintage pattern.
Also, that crochet tank top without pants is too awesome.
Is there a speedo under there?
Hilarious.
