I have really been enjoying taking a bunch of fabric dyeing classes this year. Recently I dyed a linen table runner with (pre-reduced) indigo using shibori. It became the main fabric used in my new <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2013/05/super-tote-pattern.html">Super Tote</a> by <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/">Anna Graham</a> (whom I met at Quilt Market in Minneapolis in May!). Until now I had only made her <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-tutorial-size.html">Open Wide Zippered Pouch</a> (see <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/03/princess-zipper-pouch.html">here</a> and <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/10/rainbowy-crafty-set.html">here</a>), but I always wanted to use more of her patterns... have you seen <a href="https://www.noodle-head.com/product/handmade-style-book-signed-copy">her new book</a> yet?<br />

I love how my Super Tote turned out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f28u_iXfRdw/Vl20_ur-8oI/AAAAAAAAIoA/vu-WD_4BOsI/s1600/supertote4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Indigo Shibori Super Tote nest full of eggs" border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f28u_iXfRdw/Vl20_ur-8oI/AAAAAAAAIoA/vu-WD_4BOsI/s640/supertote4.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Og9PY6qvjG0/Vl21A90NwII/AAAAAAAAIoE/tvmaCUhPSKw/s1600/supertote5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Indigo Shibori Super Tote nest full of eggs" border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Og9PY6qvjG0/Vl21A90NwII/AAAAAAAAIoE/tvmaCUhPSKw/s640/supertote5.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
The straps are chambray otherwise all of the fabrics I dyed in classes that I took this year.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J2N_a-2OwC8/Vl21B6FYqMI/AAAAAAAAIoM/H8JDuRV79Yw/s1600/supertote6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Indigo Shibori Super Tote nest full of eggs" border="0" height="428" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J2N_a-2OwC8/Vl21B6FYqMI/AAAAAAAAIoM/H8JDuRV79Yw/s640/supertote6.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue'; font-size: 14px;">The linen table runner was approximately 17 inches by 63 inches and it was just enough for the main pieces of the tote. Only a couple of narrow strips of fabric remain from it. At the class I also dyed a couple of skirts, here you can see the result of a white <a href="http://oliverands.com/free-patterns/lazy-days-skirt/">Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt</a> that I wrapped with six rubber bands.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2OuwIT0S1Kw/Vl21Diwh78I/AAAAAAAAIoQ/hMX6g6znIH4/s1600/supertote7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="indigo shibori nest full of eggs" border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2OuwIT0S1Kw/Vl21Diwh78I/AAAAAAAAIoQ/hMX6g6znIH4/s640/supertote7.jpg" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
This light blue chambray skirt is an <a href="http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2015/07/adding-hem-tucks-to-the-lazy-days-skirt.html">Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt with hem tucks</a> that I sewed over the summer. I think it was only the second time my daughter was wearing it that she got red popsicle stains on it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IlXTvUUFTiY/Vl21ERSHfEI/AAAAAAAAIoU/PgcJxs3y3CU/s1600/supertote8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt with hem tucks" border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IlXTvUUFTiY/Vl21ERSHfEI/AAAAAAAAIoU/PgcJxs3y3CU/s640/supertote8.jpg" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
So I threw the skirt into the indigo vat and this is how it turned out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dca-JmQ-yck/Vl21G6iT6aI/AAAAAAAAIoY/_Ykfa6crC44/s1600/supertote9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="indigo dyes Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt with hem tucks" border="0" height="428" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dca-JmQ-yck/Vl21G6iT6aI/AAAAAAAAIoY/_Ykfa6crC44/s640/supertote9.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
I loved how the skirts came out, so much so that I decided to take them apart and use the fabrics for my tote. I can always sew more skirts for my girl. I love the effect of the hem tucks and decided they would make great visual interest for the sides of the tote.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wywq8dffUi4/Vl21H70QjCI/AAAAAAAAIoc/Tlhno0aujjE/s1600/supertote10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="indigo dyed Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt taken apart" border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wywq8dffUi4/Vl21H70QjCI/AAAAAAAAIoc/Tlhno0aujjE/s640/supertote10.jpg" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
Here is the before of the white Lazy Days Skirt. I made it over a year ago, one of those last minute projects. It was for an angel costume and got worn a few times, but it served it's purpose and I found it to be quite boring. So into the indigo vat it went to add some pizzazz.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvbCKczBFW0/Vl21Imw9ceI/AAAAAAAAIok/SuWokC720Ds/s1600/supertote11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="white Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt" border="0" height="428" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvbCKczBFW0/Vl21Imw9ceI/AAAAAAAAIok/SuWokC720Ds/s640/supertote11.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Once the white skirt was wrapped with six rubber bands and dyed, this is how it looked after I disassembled it. Most of the lining of my tote came from this fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LkIGoHSOyZ8/Vl21KfW5MUI/AAAAAAAAIoo/ZUyHCJRJTpo/s1600/supertote12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="indigo shibori dyed Oliver + S Lazy Days Skirt taken apart" border="0" height="428" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LkIGoHSOyZ8/Vl21KfW5MUI/AAAAAAAAIoo/ZUyHCJRJTpo/s640/supertote12.jpg" title="" width="640" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm excited to be a part of the <a href="http://www.francessuzanne.com/2015/02/flip-pattern-spring-2015-february-free.html">February Free for All</a> that's being hosted by Ashley and Emily over at <a href="http://www.francessuzanne.com/">Frances Suzanne</a>. It's where you take a free pattern and flip it. How fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So today I'm talking all about my free pattern and tutorial called the <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2012/06/purple-rose-party-dress-tutorial.html">Purple Rose Party Dress</a> (and the various ways I've flipped it). It was something I dreamed up and put together almost three years ago already. It is a sleeveless drop waist dress with a circle skirt. The sash which is attached at the sides of the bodice ties in the front. Bias tape is used for the hem of the circle skirt as well as the trim on the two arm holes and neckline. It has a v-neck back with an invisible zipper and hook and eye closure. The pattern pieces are in size 4.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f0Fmubv2X_8/VNeeCoWlfMI/AAAAAAAAIfY/EjLIT5TPT0Q/s1600/purpleroseparty.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Purple Rose Party Dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f0Fmubv2X_8/VNeeCoWlfMI/AAAAAAAAIfY/EjLIT5TPT0Q/s1600/purpleroseparty.JPG" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
Then I started playing around with the pattern and made the <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/03/striped-dress.html">Striped Dress</a>...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rReaDeWRQj4/VNeeFziwwVI/AAAAAAAAIfg/rImPphxoZM0/s1600/striped.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Striped Dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rReaDeWRQj4/VNeeFziwwVI/AAAAAAAAIfg/rImPphxoZM0/s1600/striped.JPG" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
...and the <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/09/plaid-dress.html">Plaid Dress</a>...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V3ZxersasvQ/VNeeH7w8NlI/AAAAAAAAIfo/NjSXEMONA4w/s1600/plaid.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Plaid Dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V3ZxersasvQ/VNeeH7w8NlI/AAAAAAAAIfo/NjSXEMONA4w/s1600/plaid.JPG" height="640" title="" width="342" /></a></div>
...and the <a href="http://www.nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2013/07/color-wheel-dress-tutorial.html">Color Wheel Dress</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajSnVD2Wdp0/VNeeJklyE1I/AAAAAAAAIfw/b67yc4Ql_IQ/s1600/colorwheel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color Wheel Dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ajSnVD2Wdp0/VNeeJklyE1I/AAAAAAAAIfw/b67yc4Ql_IQ/s1600/colorwheel.JPG" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
I came across this image of a pink and gray sailor-like dress somewhere on the internet (if anyone knows where the source of this image came from, please let me know) and thought I could use the Purple Rose Party Dress pattern to make something very similar. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S3WcOGX1UXg/VNeeNiqZ-BI/AAAAAAAAIf4/1bzp9Dr7H5A/s1600/theirs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="inspirational image" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S3WcOGX1UXg/VNeeNiqZ-BI/AAAAAAAAIf4/1bzp9Dr7H5A/s1600/theirs.jpg" height="640" title="" width="562" /></a></div>
And that is how this Sailor Button Dress came about. Only a couple of simple changes were needed. Instead of the circle skirt I did a rectangular gathered skirt. I took two rectangles of gray fabric that were 12 inches by 29.5 inches (and sewed them together on the sides with half inch seam allowances) and made teeny tiny pleats that I basted before attaching the skirt to the bodice. At the bottom of the skirt I folded over a half inch then again a half inch to create the hem. I bought some of this awesome shiny gold leather and cut three pieces that are approximately one inch by four inches and attached them to the front of the bodice with gold buttons. Voila! I'm really pleased with the result.<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JGZ8vvfYkNI/VLrOl8xwOQI/AAAAAAAAIeM/uogZNsoRbz0/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JGZ8vvfYkNI/VLrOl8xwOQI/AAAAAAAAIeM/uogZNsoRbz0/s1600/1.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Raise your hand if you’ve already sewn an Elsa dress. Well, I can now raise my hand because I finally got around to creating one. After every sewing mother and grandmother in the online sewing community made one. And after everyone else bought all of the Elsa fabrics up at the fabric stores.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kubqvi6OHv0/VLrOpqheUtI/AAAAAAAAIeU/83Ji8OXm9NA/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kubqvi6OHv0/VLrOpqheUtI/AAAAAAAAIeU/83Ji8OXm9NA/s1600/2.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
I used the CaliFayeCollection Gardenia Dress pattern, a dress pattern I discovered for the first time in <a href="http://www.stylomagazine.com/magazine.html">STYLO 3</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_jC8himfRc/VLrOrnr2_nI/AAAAAAAAIec/n51zfbOMTDk/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_jC8himfRc/VLrOrnr2_nI/AAAAAAAAIec/n51zfbOMTDk/s1600/3.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<b>Project details</b></div>
<div>
<b>Pattern:</b> <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/191081467/gardenia-dress-pdf-pattern-and-tutorial">CaliFayeCollection Gardenia Dress</a></div>
<div>
<b>Size:</b> 6</div>
<div>
<b>Modifications:</b> added length, eliminated the pockets, I used an old blue hair elastic for the button loop</div>
<div>
<b>Fabrics:</b> </div>
<div>
Front top/neckline/back/sleeves: white swiss dot</div>
<div>
Front lower: blue non-stretch sequin fabric</div>
<div>
Skirt: blue faux silk dupioni</div>
<div>
<b>Notions:</b> white shank button with a snowflake on it, the last one leftover from the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/19337958@N02/16095228336/">Nordic stripes flannel Christmas pajamas</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aUg6Ch1LDg0/VLrOtkQYAKI/AAAAAAAAIek/pMjWT0ZZ0tI/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aUg6Ch1LDg0/VLrOtkQYAKI/AAAAAAAAIek/pMjWT0ZZ0tI/s1600/4.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
I later added a removable cape. It’s 3/4 yard of light sparkly fabric, three sides were hemmed, it's gathered at the top and sewn together with bias binding, with elastic loops at each end that attach to buttons on the shoulders. I got the idea <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/hinjul5/14999010264/in/pool-oliverands">here</a>. An added bonus is that she is able to put the cape on and off all by herself, it's that easy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q3oF8CjqlPo/VLrOwdfWFlI/AAAAAAAAIes/FtImRWYXijs/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q3oF8CjqlPo/VLrOwdfWFlI/AAAAAAAAIes/FtImRWYXijs/s1600/5.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
What better place to take photos of Elsa the snow queen than outside in the snow?? These photos were taken on one of Minnesota’s 10,000 frozen lakes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mfBU80csBbo/VLrOxSSrnII/AAAAAAAAIe0/iok-YrpfRJ8/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Elsa dress by nestfullofeggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mfBU80csBbo/VLrOxSSrnII/AAAAAAAAIe0/iok-YrpfRJ8/s1600/6.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">I had a third week of November deadline for these to be done and I’m so pleased I finished them in time. They are the <a href="http://oliverands.com/straight-stitch-society-patterns/OLV-SS009IC1-D.html">In A Clutch Cosmetic Case</a> from <a href="http://oliverands.com/category/straight-stitch-society-patterns.html">Straight Stitch Society</a>. Three different styles (I sewed one of each) that are fun and were a quick and easy sew.</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">The gold dot one was inspired by <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/75787206204702963/">this pin</a>. I bought the gold dot fabric at <a href="http://www.joann.com/">JoAnn Fabrics</a>.</span><br />

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">The blue one was inspired by <a href="http://oliverands.com/community/blog/2014/07/color-palette-butterfly-blues.html">this color palette</a>. I believe I bought all three of the fabrics from <a href="http://www.shopcraftyplanet.com/">Crafty Planet</a>.</span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"> The three different fabrics are: a <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/300122762641441031/">gray Kona cotton</a>,</span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"> <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/300122762641441047/">Blue butterflies</a>, and the lining is </span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Pearl bracelets (a lighter shade of <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/300122762641487778/">this</a>).</span>

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">The pink one my girl picked out the fabrics and style she wanted, so that one was custom made for her. The hot pink is cotton sateen and the other one is white with hot pink dots, both of those fabrics I purchased as <a href="http://srharrisfabric.com/">SR Harris</a>.</span>

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">The gold dot and blue ones are gifts that were put in two different <a href="http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/">Christmas shoe boxes</a> for a girl 10-14 years old. I put sewing supplies like sewing kits and thread inside them and also included sewing supplies like scissors, fabrics, and buttons in the boxes. <span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Yesterday I shared my <a href="http://www.nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2014/11/stylo-no-3-peaches-and-cream.html">Peaches and Cream look</a> for STYLO issue three. Now today I’ve got my Grey Zone look to share. Again, just like for the Peaches and Cream photos, all of the Grey Zone photos featured in STYLO were taken by my friend <a href="http://thelandofka.com/">Stacy</a> ~ thank you Stacy!</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">This whole outfit came together because I was really inspired by the black and white pins found in the <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/celinab/stylo-no3-mood-board/">STYLO no.3 Mood Board</a>. Black and white can be so classic, classy, and chic. So this is my little Diane Keaton look. Or maybe it could be Mary Tyler Moore since the photos were taken in downtown Minneapolis. I love the contrast going on here, black and white, masculine and feminine. Anyway, just something different for STYLO and maybe something a little different from what I usually make… maybe some people are surprised I didn’t sew a dress!</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Here are the details about my Grey Zone look...</span>

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">I did bring my camera along to the photo shoot and I got exactly <b>one</b> photo and this is it because right after I snapped this shot my girl went running off! <span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">The one and only <a href="http://www.stylomagazine.com/magazine.html">STYLO</a> has released it’s third issue and it’s their ‘Golden’ edition. STYLO is the fashion forward sewing e-magazine for kids. It’s beautifully put together by the Editors in Chief <a href="http://www.petitapetitandfamily.com/">Celina</a> and <a href="http://www.sewingrabbit.com/">Jess</a>. For me the huge thing is that it shows the whole world that sewing children’s garments can be <b>fashionable</b> and <b>fun</b>!</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">All 217 pages of this issue are packed full of things to inspire you to create and I think it’s going to take me a couple of days to actually read through the whole thing!</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Back in August when preparation started for issue three I grabbed by sewing friend <a href="http://thelandofka.com/">Stacy</a> as soon as possible to help me out. She not only has wicked sewing skills, but also amazing photography and photo editing skills. I definitely needed help with the photography in order to be up to par with STYLO! Stacy took all the photos that you see in STYLO for our Peaches and Cream and Grey Zone looks. (On page 4 where it lists all the contributors, that photo was actually Stacy’s photo even though it says it was by me and her). But not only that she also did all the photo editing, styling (she brought all of the props/accessories, the fans, the umbrellas, the sun glasses; she even braided my girl’s hair for the Peaches and Cream look!), and she pretty much ran all of the photo shoots. It was such a fun project, with the all the ideas and planning, sewing pattern and fabric advice, fabric shopping we did together, and then the photo shoots at a couple of fun locations.</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Take a look at the <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/celinab/stylo-no3-mood-board/">STYLO no.3 Mood Board</a>… fun right? The sequins, metallic items, and the pinks were inspiring and with using that inspiration this is my Peaches and Cream look that came to completion.</span><br />

I folded over the front bodice pieces too much, so the front bodice pieces don't overlap as much as they are suppose to. This also means that the hood came right up to the edge of the front bodice pieces. This was totally my mistake and no fault with the pattern/instructions. But I still really like how it turned out!<br />

More Kids Clothes Week sewing. My second garment is complete. I had the pleasure of sewing up a new pattern by Suz of <a href="http://www.sewponyblog.com/">sewpony</a> called the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/205857414/sunday-picnic-dress">Sunday picnic dress.</a> There are many options with the pattern and I decided to sew a sleeveless, collarless one without buttons. This dress includes some of my favorite details with little girl dresses: invisible zipper, pockets, and piping.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KdvVVPZEhvw/VEmnnUEZPYI/AAAAAAAAIOM/T_F5jHbe_8s/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Sunday picnic dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KdvVVPZEhvw/VEmnnUEZPYI/AAAAAAAAIOM/T_F5jHbe_8s/s1600/2.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
I actually did iron the hem, it just looks like I didn't. The only change I would make with this dress is that I think it would look really nice with piping around the armholes and it would be something that would be easy to add. I had fun working with border fabric with this one and come to think of it, I think this is the first time I've ever used border fabric?? <br />

Well things are looking really good for my KCW list. I had a goal of sewing up three garments. Two of the three are done so far and the third and last one is cut out. I'm working on a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/203421611/the-mullbery-tunic-for-boys-and-girls">Mulberry Tunic</a> which I hope to get done in the next few days. <span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">I’ve been wanting this sewing pattern forever and finally got it this past month. It’s only available as a paper pattern and it’s shipped from France and I guess maybe that's why I was so hesitant to get it right away. I sure hope things change in the future and that more digital patterns are offered from international pattern companies.</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"></span><br />
<b>Project details</b><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><b>Pattern:</b> Papillon et Mandarine Leon Shorts (sizes 2-10 years) paper pattern <a href="http://papillonetmandarine.bigcartel.com/product/english-pattern-leon">in English</a> or <a href="http://papillonetmandarine.bigcartel.com/product/patron-leon">en francais</a>.</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><b>Size:</b> 6</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><b>Fabric:</b> 5/8 yard <a href="http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/robert_kaufman_house_designer/interweave_chambray/interweave_chambray_in_khaki">Interweave Chambray in Khaki</a></span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"> by Robert Kaufman from <a href="http://www.hawthornethreads.com/">Hawthorne Threads</a></span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"> was used for everything: the main fabric, the lining, and all the fabric covered buttons, and very little fabric was left over.</span><br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><b>Notions:</b> 1/2 and 5/8 inch fabric covered buttons and a couple of plastic buttons and buttonhole elastic for the back waistband.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-km91wrk5zzo/VAuVXyJjjtI/AAAAAAAAIKI/m7tap-KQt3c/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Leon shorts by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-km91wrk5zzo/VAuVXyJjjtI/AAAAAAAAIKI/m7tap-KQt3c/s1600/2.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">There was the option of hand stitching or topstitching certain parts and I started out hand stitching, but then quickly switched to topstitching. Who has time for so much hand stitching? On future pairs I will do all topstitching (that is a guarantee) and there will be several future pairs thanks to the major cute factor! Who can resist these sailor style bloomer shorts all gathered and puffy? And all the adorable little buttons? And they have pockets which are always a big hit.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">Being a European (French) pattern the seam allowances are 1 cm (= 3/8 inch) which is smaller than what I’m used to working with which is 1/2 inch. So next time around I make the seam allowances on the leg cuffs to be 1/2 inch because 3/8 inch is just too small and fiddly to work with on a smaller detail like that.</span>
</span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wk8H8n8U4lM/VAuVYPBYNDI/AAAAAAAAIKM/FSnHcAgY3O0/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Leon shorts by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wk8H8n8U4lM/VAuVYPBYNDI/AAAAAAAAIKM/FSnHcAgY3O0/s1600/3.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;">So now C has another pair of khaki shorts for school uniform bottoms (back in July for KCW I sewed up a pair of <a href="http://www.nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2014/07/kids-clothes-week-july-2014.html">Clever Charlotte Finch Shorts)</a>. I’m so pleased with the final result and the perfect fit! Now I'm off to make the next pair of Leon shorts…</span><br />

Finally some sewing for moi! <a href="http://www.nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2014/07/kids-clothes-week-july-2014.html">Last time I sewed shorts</a>, I mentioned I wanted to make myself a pair of these. They are the <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/">City Gym Shorts</a>, a free pattern from <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/">The Purl Bee</a>.<br />

<b>Pattern:</b> The Purl Bee <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/">City Gym Shorts</a> (free pattern)<br />
<b>Size:</b> 35-37 inch hip<br />
<b>Fabrics:</b> <a href="http://www.shopcraftyplanet.com/london-calling-4-garden-sketch-blue/">London Calling 4 Garden Sketch in blue</a> from <a href="http://www.shopcraftyplanet.com/">Crafty Planet</a> and <a href="http://hancockfabrics.com/chambray-dark-denim-4.6oz-cotton-fabric-3763620.html#q=chambray&start=1">Chambray Dark Denim</a> from <a href="http://hancockfabrics.com/">Hancock</a>.<br />
<b>Notes:</b> I went up one size and the fit is a little roomy, perfect as summer pajama shorts which is what I'm using them for. I would definitely sew up more of these, in different sizes, too. It's a great pattern if you haven't tried it yet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVWUglyZnpE/VAN7OC-LwyI/AAAAAAAAIIA/1Xvl3ztMXFM/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="City Gym Shorts by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVWUglyZnpE/VAN7OC-LwyI/AAAAAAAAIIA/1Xvl3ztMXFM/s1600/2.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
I still want to sew up some more shorts, next up several <a href="http://papillonetmandarine.bigcartel.com/product/english-pattern-leon">Leon shorts</a> including khacki for school uniform bottoms.nest full of eggshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16943916385545316495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-398370768311382980.post-90406400359344574252014-08-24T21:16:00.000-05:002014-08-24T21:16:43.248-05:00No-sew 18-inch Doll Dresses<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KKCL5AsBkco/U_qVggcec4I/AAAAAAAAIEo/12WLia89maI/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="No-sew 18-inch Doll Dresses by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KKCL5AsBkco/U_qVggcec4I/AAAAAAAAIEo/12WLia89maI/s1600/1.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
A few months ago I went to a used clothing sale and bought 34 newborn sized (which fits a 5-8 pound baby) clothing items for $47. So it cost about $1.38 for each item. The intention was to turn them into doll clothes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fTV50JsyCr8/U_qVkl9K0DI/AAAAAAAAIEw/pB1fQbSkWmM/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Newborn clothes, 34 items for $47" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fTV50JsyCr8/U_qVkl9K0DI/AAAAAAAAIEw/pB1fQbSkWmM/s1600/2.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
First off, these newborn tops (one orange and the other one blue with white dots) became instant 18-inch doll dresses with no adjustments necessary.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L8RTpxZ1V-k/U_qVoNHeNbI/AAAAAAAAIE8/GczGkPFhGCs/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Newborn tops as 18-inch doll dresses" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L8RTpxZ1V-k/U_qVoNHeNbI/AAAAAAAAIE8/GczGkPFhGCs/s1600/3.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Next up, there were these two newborn onsie dresses.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-htNt0ps1TO8/U_qVoPqvQdI/AAAAAAAAIE4/JV48_Bstswc/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="No-sew 18-inch doll dresses from newborn onsie dresses" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-htNt0ps1TO8/U_qVoPqvQdI/AAAAAAAAIE4/JV48_Bstswc/s1600/4.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
I simply lifted up the skirt part of the dress and cut off the onsie part with a scissors. Just that one quick easy step and they became 18-inch doll dresses. No need to finish the newly cut edges as knit fabric doesn't fray.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dH8bliXy3Fw/U_qVqj0RcvI/AAAAAAAAIFI/2iOePYyzPbo/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="No-sew 18-inch doll dresses from newborn onsie dresses" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dH8bliXy3Fw/U_qVqj0RcvI/AAAAAAAAIFI/2iOePYyzPbo/s1600/5.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
The straps on the pink striped dress turned out to be a little bit too long.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rLPZ5aZcbS8/U_qVuNwwoKI/AAAAAAAAIFU/hVgNb4plv30/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Before straps were adjusted" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rLPZ5aZcbS8/U_qVuNwwoKI/AAAAAAAAIFU/hVgNb4plv30/s1600/6.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
So I tucked the straps under in the back and sewed them down using my sewing machine. It fit much better after I did that.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gN5qfjMyFDU/U_qVufJXj7I/AAAAAAAAIFQ/S_XZS6qhjQg/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="No-sew 18-inch doll dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gN5qfjMyFDU/U_qVufJXj7I/AAAAAAAAIFQ/S_XZS6qhjQg/s1600/7.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
Most of the newborn onsies were made into <a href="http://nestfullofeggs.blogspot.com/2014/05/newborn-onesies-to-18-inch-doll-clothes.html">18-inch doll t-shirts and nightgowns</a>. The newborn bloomers and pants turned out to be too big for an 18-inch doll, but they do fit a bigger baby doll.<br />
<br />
What a deal with each new doll clothing item only costing around $1.38 a piece!nest full of eggshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16943916385545316495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-398370768311382980.post-47822752941301364182014-08-04T17:10:00.000-05:002014-08-04T17:10:17.631-05:00Knock It Off<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Heidi over at <a href="http://www.eleganceandelephants.com/">Elegance & Elephants</a> is hosting her third Knock it Off series. Today it's my turn to share my knock off. I started out with <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/300122762641111569/">this photo of a woman's sleeveless color blocked button shoulder dress</a>. And made a girl version using the <a href="http://oliverands.com/oliver-and-s-patterns-dresses/OLV-OS038RSD.html">Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress</a>. What can I say, I love color blocking!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dE8zLU1NGjw/U9_6EfRRRRI/AAAAAAAAIDw/t44-VTwAIqo/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dE8zLU1NGjw/U9_6EfRRRRI/AAAAAAAAIDw/t44-VTwAIqo/s1600/2.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
When normally I'd sew my daughter a size 6, I went one size down, therefore a size 5 (and eliminated the Empire-waist elastic casing), but added 2 inches in length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y01BqTh4fh4/U9_6FytYsrI/AAAAAAAAID4/atT1f3yycGE/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y01BqTh4fh4/U9_6FytYsrI/AAAAAAAAID4/atT1f3yycGE/s1600/3.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
I added the one in-seam pocket using the pocket pattern from the <a href="http://oliverands.com/oliver-and-s-patterns-dresses/OLV-OS037BRD.html">Oliver + S Book Report Dress</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--xkEqRTBwuw/U9_6IeCImkI/AAAAAAAAIEA/uzO8-w-Qe6g/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--xkEqRTBwuw/U9_6IeCImkI/AAAAAAAAIEA/uzO8-w-Qe6g/s1600/4.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
There are three buttons on each shoulder just like in the inspiration photo.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uv_UutSfzCo/U9_6K_fh9pI/AAAAAAAAIEI/a9y_SKQ0iQk/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uv_UutSfzCo/U9_6K_fh9pI/AAAAAAAAIEI/a9y_SKQ0iQk/s1600/5.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Have you ever done color blocking before? It's so much fun. I used the same method as Liesl shows in her <a href="https://oliverands.com/blog/2013/07/color-blocking-101.html">color bocking 101 post</a>.<br />
<br />
I made a 60 degree angle line across the front of the dress pattern piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VoPQ8kURZVg/U9_6M-dvo6I/AAAAAAAAIEQ/z1ZXryb6XkQ/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VoPQ8kURZVg/U9_6M-dvo6I/AAAAAAAAIEQ/z1ZXryb6XkQ/s1600/6.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Then I cut along that line and when cutting out the fabric I added seam allowances along those new cut lines.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ltFTToHPTWE/U9_6OwlumhI/AAAAAAAAIEY/5hztUUZuGjY/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Color blocked Oliver + S Roller Skate Dress by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ltFTToHPTWE/U9_6OwlumhI/AAAAAAAAIEY/5hztUUZuGjY/s1600/7.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
Be sure to check out all the other creations from the series.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"> First off, here is some basic info about the <span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">Ethan Shirt for boys:</span></span><br />

<li>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">sizes 1-14 (most children's patterns go up to size 12, so what a bonus that this one goes all the way up to 14)</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: small;">
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">166 pages (each size is separate so that’s why there are 166 pages)</span></span>
</li>
</ul>

<span style="font-size: small;"> <span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">I remember for The Great British Sewing Bee series 1, for the finale they had to sew a man’s buttons shirt which included a collar stand, but without cuffs and they had to complete it in 4 hours. Thank goodness I didn’t have the time constraint of 4 hours!</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">Sewing it up by the pattern, this project took me more than 4 hours. There are a ton of diagrams, but a few of them were incorrect and when you are a visual learner like me, this can become frustrating. I wonder how these mistakes get past the testers. Maybe I’m just super picky when it comes to the visuals. </span><br />
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"></span><br />

So this project is not for the faint of heart!</span><br />
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"></span><br />
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">At one point there were many layers of fabric I had to sew through, this was at a corner of the collar stand, trying to sew through all those layers I broke a needle! I found attaching the sleeves to be a bit tricky, they didn’t ease in as easily as I’d hope they would. </span><br />
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"></span><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7TErHP1a84/U97YrD1xgsI/AAAAAAAAICM/fRrOMDCPQhQ/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Ethan Shirt by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q7TErHP1a84/U97YrD1xgsI/AAAAAAAAICM/fRrOMDCPQhQ/s1600/5.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>

This one it’s 1/4”.</span></span><br />

<span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;">With these instructions you have everything you need to know with the many step-by-step diagrams for a well-designed button shirt with collar stand. Having a collar stand was a huge thing for me, that’s what I was looking for in a button shirt and not all button shirt patterns out there have a collar stand.</span><br />
<span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-family: Arial; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;"> </span><span style="font: 13.0px Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">Next up for my flipped version, I sewed a blue sleeveless dress with pleated skirt for C in size 6. The very full skirt makes for a very twirly dress!</span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3NtYV_E-3YQ/U97YxkETBLI/AAAAAAAAICc/i3zN1zNLVUI/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Flipped Ethan Shirt by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3NtYV_E-3YQ/U97YxkETBLI/AAAAAAAAICc/i3zN1zNLVUI/s1600/7.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"> I was inspired by <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/300122762641398330/">this pin</a>.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-asG_zOfOfRo/U97YxxMQItI/AAAAAAAAICg/KFKcRz8l1qQ/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Flipped Ethan Shirt by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-asG_zOfOfRo/U97YxxMQItI/AAAAAAAAICg/KFKcRz8l1qQ/s1600/8.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
I took the shirt, made it into bodice and made it sleeveless by adding bias tape around the armholes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QkXjb6xOfoc/U97YzmzfmdI/AAAAAAAAICs/Nl5ROkdVgEc/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Flipped Ethan Shirt by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QkXjb6xOfoc/U97YzmzfmdI/AAAAAAAAICs/Nl5ROkdVgEc/s1600/9.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
I added a skirt with a lot of fabric, it has many pleats that all go the same direction all the way around the skirt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-emTDdaYxr6c/U97Y4p0XMRI/AAAAAAAAIC4/Dh_gUjiKOp4/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Flipped Ethan Shirt by nest full of eggs" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-emTDdaYxr6c/U97Y4p0XMRI/AAAAAAAAIC4/Dh_gUjiKOp4/s1600/10.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
And I added in-seam side pockets.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"> <span style="font-family: inherit;">I found this tip and tutorial helpful: <span style="-moz-font-feature-settings: normal; -moz-font-language-override: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><a href="http://mellysews.com/2014/05/sew-collar-points.html">sew sharp collar points</a>.</span></span></span>

I love that there are buttons, but no buttonholes! Instead of the full pleats I made box pleats because I really like box pleats and liked how <a href="http://www.running-w-scissors.com/2012/05/finch-shorts-clever-charlotte.html#.U9bcsFPeoxc">Jessica's turned out</a>. These were made up in size 6 in khaki cotton twill. Khaki bottoms are required at school as part of the school uniform. Maybe she'll wear these on the first day of school...</span></span>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U_WkVUv-ImQ/U8ajnCfUNMI/AAAAAAAAIAo/htQzKdbBveQ/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Oliver + S Popover Sundress and Made by Rae Little Geranium Dress" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U_WkVUv-ImQ/U8ajnCfUNMI/AAAAAAAAIAo/htQzKdbBveQ/s1600/1.jpg" height="428" title="" width="640" /></a></div>
...of Paint by Number Deer from Erin Michael's Lush Uptown line. I'm reorganizing by sewing studio this summer, going through everything, getting rid of what I'm done with, and figuring out what to do with some of the fabrics in my stash. It was quick and easy to decide what to sew from this fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n3NBDD05sos/U8ajREO87fI/AAAAAAAAIAQ/J6pMlMXBU3U/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Oliver + S Popover Sundress, Paint by Number Deer from Erin Michael's Lush Uptown line" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n3NBDD05sos/U8ajREO87fI/AAAAAAAAIAQ/J6pMlMXBU3U/s1600/2.jpg" height="640" title="" width="428" /></a></div>
In order to get these 2 dresses to fit in one yard, I made the <a href="https://oliverands.com/free-patterns/popover-sundress/">Oliver + S Popover Sundress</a> in size 5 and for the Made by Rae <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2013/01/free-little-geranium-dress-pattern/">Little Geranium Dress</a> (which is 0-3 months) I made the skirt 34 inches wide instead of 44. I still can't believe I got 2 dresses out of only one yard! Plus the secondary fabrics (from my stash) were pretty minimal.<br />
