BurdaStyle Magazine

BurdaStyle Magazine Summer 2014
Many thanks to BurdaStyle for publishing my vintage button storage idea in their Summer 2014 issue.
What organizing tip are you most proud of in your sewing space?
The question was: "What organizing tip are you most proud of in your sewing room?"
button storage on large safety pin by nest full of eggs
I shared my tip for storing similar buttons by placing them on a large safety pin, then closing it.

Then I keep the buttons that are all the same color in one jar.

By the way, the rest of the magazine looks fabulous, have a peek inside here.

My mom stored her buttons the same way. I recall as a child helping her sort buttons by colour and sliding them on a safety pin. I have her button stash now and most are still on their original safety pin.

That is such a sentimental story, Deb, thanks for sharing. That is one precious button stash you have.
This is great!! I received my first (sample) Burda magazine in the Spring and am considering subscribing. It's an excellent publication. I like your idea -- that would be a great way to organize the hundreds of buttons I inherited from my grandmother!
Great tip!! I am going to use it...I am tired of digging through my jar to find matching buttons!
ooh, great idea! My mom put the call out last year to all her friends and they sent me buttons and buttons and buttons. My girls sorted them into little baggies but this is much better

Congratulations Rachel, such a great feature. That magazine looks very interesting, and your storage idea is terrific. I am going to try it. We go through lots of Bon Mamman jam in our home so I save the jars.
That is how my Grandma taught me! There are so many tips out there that I thought people knew about, but it seems we are keeping secrets from other, huh?? ;) That is wonderful that you got to share it in the magazine! :)
This is awesome!! I do almost the same, but use wire instead. I love how easy it is to open and close the safety pins though!
Oh smart. I have some buttons that this would work nicely with!
Genius! I really need to go back through and organize my buttons and this is a perfect way to do it. Perhaps I'll let the kids do it on a rainy day....;)
